Craft SUPPLY sale!

November 16th, 2011 | Posted by admin in Craft Ideas | Handmade | Love for nature | Sewing | Taxidermy - (0 Comments)

I’m so excited for this!

There was one a week ago and I was in heaven! So much stuff! So many awesome craft supplies, I almost fainted… but then, I found this….

It’s a wolf pelt collar! The woman running the sale used to own a costume shop that specialized in wardrobe for movies. They had bins off fur collars and I found this beauty there. I haven’t worn it out yet but am so excite to give it a spin! If you’re unfamiliar with my obsession with taxidermy, find out more in this post.

Vintage Stuffed Elephant for Cedric

Friends I met in University recently had their first child, a son, Cedric. I wasn’t sure what to get them as a baby gift and with not a lot of time to knit something (completely my fault because I knew she was pregnant almost immediately after it’s “safe” to tell), I decided to sew a toy. An elephant toy in fact. So I grabbed a pair of jeans from the closet and raided the fabric stash, looked through my collection of patterns and knew it was meant to be.  Meet Cedric’s new elephant friend.

I bought the pattern off ebay, I forget from what seller now but I found this and it’s the same pattern.

I hope Cedric enjoys him as much as I enjoyed sewing him! Happy Birthday!

Go Green

Our first roommate, about 6 months after we moved in together, bought a townhouse! It’s a great place for him and since then he’s got the  cutest dog and is happy in his home. He requested some cloth grocery bags as a house warming gift and this is what I came up with. I basically went though my fabric stash and cut the fabric evenly to make three bags, put a double fabric bottom on them, sewed up the sides, handle, viola! Eco friendly grocery bag.

Sock Monsters

I made a bunch of these a couple of years ago for Christmas gifts. For the most part the recipients thought they were wonderful, although a couple thought they were pretty creepy. The idea came to me on a trip to Vancouver while paroosing the wonderful shops and galleries on Granville Island. After doing a little more research I found this awesome book: Stupid Sock Creatures and was instantly hooked to their creation.

I created a whole family of sock monsters and one monster takes about an hour with a sewing machine. I boxed them up individually with a Family portrait and a poem.

What I discovered the full moon past

Through the curtains the moonlight cast

A peek to the darkest part of my room

Where one dares not venture or face eminent doom

I discovered a litter of littles under my bed

Sound asleep after just being fed.

This was six weeks ago and now

The bumps, the creaks, the moans and groans

Are getting too much as these little creatures grow

I’m missing my sleep

As the roam and creep

The darkest corners of my space

They are old enough now to have a new place

So I’m giving them to you to cuddle and hold

On those dark chilling nights they will scare off the cold

From the motherly monster under my bed who preened

Cherish them, these nine unique babies, I have weaned

Of brothers and sisters who go bump in the night

They will protect the people I cherish, from fright
